Manchester United defender Luke Shaw facing FA charge over referee comments?

Luke Shaw is reportedly facing FA action after claiming referee Stuart Attwell told Harry Maguire that Manchester United should have been given a penalty against Chelsea.

Luke Shaw is reportedly at risk of being charged by the Football Association for comments made in the wake of Manchester United's goalless draw with Chelsea.

The left-back suggested in a television interview after the game that Stuart Atwell did not award United a penalty because the decision would have caused controversy.

Shaw alleged that Attwell had told captain Harry Maguire about his decision not to point to the spot, despite VAR supposedly advising the official to do so for Callum Hudson-Odoi's handball.

"The ref even said to H (Maguire), I heard him say 'if I say it's a penalty then it's going to cause a lot of talk about it after'," Shaw told Sky Sports News.

"So I don't know what happened there. H said that they got told it was a penalty by VAR."

Shaw later backtracked on the comments, claiming that he misheard what Attwell told Maguire, but the Daily Mail claims that the FA may still take action.

It is claimed that Shaw could be charged with the offence of "implying bias or attacking the integrity" of match officials, which can lead to a suspension.
