Liverpool and Manchester United are expected to hold talks this week over fans' behaviour ahead of Sunday's Premier League encounter at Anfield.

Tensions between the two sides were raised on Saturday after some United supporters reportedly sang tasteless chants about the Hillsborough disaster on the week that documents were released confirming that Liverpool fans were not responsible for the tragedy in 1989 that saw 96 people killed at an FA Cup semi-final.

The Red Devils were quick to release a statement condeming the chants following their win over Wigan at Old Trafford.

United chief executive David Gill and Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre will now meet to discuss the situation, according to The Telegraph.

The pair could also concern themselves with a possible return to Anfield for Patrice Evra following last season's Luis Suarez racism row.

The defender was subjected to jeers from some Liverpool fans on his last visit to Merseyside after Reds striker Suarez was found guilty of racially abusing the Frenchman.

The Uruguayan international also caused uproar when he refused to shake Evra's hand at Old Trafford in February.
