Jesse Lingard looking to challenge new Manchester United arrivals

Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard insists that he will push to challenge for a place alongside the club's new summer signings.

Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard has insisted that he plans to challenge the club's new major signings for a place in Louis van Gaal's starting XI next season.

United have made some key additions already this summer with the arrivals of Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, but youngster Lingard has said that he will continue to fight for a spot despite increased competition for places.

"There is always going to be competition, no matter where you go," said Lingard, according to The Express. "You see Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin come in and it makes you more hungry to do more to get into the team.

"It's healthy competition at the end of the day. Memphis has got a bubbly character about him and [Matteo] Darmian hangs around with the foreign guys a lot.

"There's good vibes in the camp at the moment. We can't wait to get the season under way but, at the moment, we need to concentrate on the games on tour."

Lingard spent part of last season out on loan at Championship side Derby County.
