A lawyer on the Greek island of Mykonos claims that Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is highly unlikely to face prison time following his arrest.

A lawyer in Mykonos has insisted that Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is highly unlikely to face any prison time following his arrest on the Greek island.

Maguire is understood to have spent two nights in custody following an altercation with local police last week during a holiday with family and friends.

The 27-year-old faces charges of aggravated assault and attempted bribery of a police officer, both of which he has denied, but Zannis Panayotakopoulos - a lawyer on the island - expects Maguire to be hit with a fine at worst.

"Bribes are very serious crimes in Greece," Zannis told Sky Sports News.

"But I believe that it has become a misdemeanour. The highest sentence can be five years imprisonment and a fine.

"But most of these crimes have big and heavy fines and definitely not prison time. In Greece, in our legal system, we have second chances."

Maguire's trial began today, although he has returned to England following his release from custody and will be represented by his lawyers.
