Martin Keown claims that he would be "very surprised" if Everton fans boo David Moyes on his return to Goodison Park this weekend.

Former Everton defender Martin Keown has claimed that he would be "very surprised" if David Moyes were booed at Goodison Park this weekend.

Moyes takes his Manchester United side back to the place where he spent 11 years on Easter Sunday, and Keown said that he would be shocked if the Scot's reception were anything other than respectful.

He told the Daily Mail: "I would be very surprised if they did [boo] to be honest. Bill Kenwright said he was pinching himself when he lost one great manager and found another one to replace him in Roberto Martinez.

"But the fans have got to show appreciation for the foundations David Moyes laid at that football club. That's what Martinez has been able to build off. They needed that stability at the time and Moyes gave them that.

"A lot of the players doing well now are Moyes's signings and though Martinez has used the loan system well, he still has work to do in the transfer market."

Everton are currently fifth in the Premier League.
