Jose Mourinho was provided with £19.6m in compensation when Manchester United sacked him in December.
Mourinho held a contract at Old Trafford until 2020, but a poor run of results led to the club's hierarchy removing the Portuguese from his managerial role towards the end of last year.
United's form has since improved with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer winning 10 of his 12 matches in caretaker charge, but the change in boss did not come without a cost.
The second-quarter financial results for United were released on Thursday, and it revealed that Mourinho had been given a hefty payout as a result of his early departure.
Mourinho received at least four times more than David Moyes and Louis van Gaal when they were sacked in 2014 and 2016 respectively.
