Fernando Hierro claims that England defender Phil Jones can be world class.

Real Madrid legend Fernando Hierro has said that Manchester United's Phil Jones can be world class.

Jones, who made his England debut earlier this season, drew recent comparisons from England coach Fabio Capello to the former Spain international.

Hierro has since described the defender as a "great talent".

"I know Jones very well," he said. "He played for England against Spain last summer in the Under-21 European Championship and was very impressive.

"I was there and said that England had a serious talent. Sir Alex Ferguson would not pay so much for him if Jones was not a great talent.

"If he keeps evolving the way he is he will be world class."

The former Blackburn man joined the Red Devils for £16.5m earlier this summer.
