Ryan Giggs 'proud' to be named Manchester United interim manager

Ryan Giggs expresses his pride at being appointed interim Manchester United manager following the dismissal of David Moyes.

Ryan Giggs has expressed his delight at being named Manchester United's interim manager following the dismissal of David Moyes.

The Welshman will take charge of the first team until the end of the season after the club opted to sack Moyes on Tuesday, less than 10 months after appointing him as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor.

Giggs, who is being assisted by ex-players Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt, will take his place on the touchline at Old Trafford in Saturday's Premier League match against Norwich City.

In an interview with MUTV, Giggs said: "When Ed [Woodward] asked me to look after the team for the remaining four games, I had no hesitation in saying yes. I've got to say this is the proudest moment of my life. The club has been the biggest part of my life since I was 14.

"I'm proud, happy, a little bit nervous, but just like I am as a player, I can't wait for the game on Saturday. It's been a crazy week. I can't wait for 5.30pm on Saturday. I know the place will be rocking. The first phone call was to Scholesy. I know how much the club means to these lads.

"I've had to take a bit of stick, the lads asked me where I was going to park. My message to the players has been that I trust them. I told them to go and score goals and entertain. That's my philosophy."

Moyes was dismissed from his role after overseeing the current league champions slip to 15 defeats in all competitions, as well failing to qualify for next season's Champions League.
