Gary Pallister: 'Anthony Martial must avoid Adnan Januzaj scenario'

Gary Pallister downplays the hype surrounding Manchester United striker Anthony Martial.

Former Manchester United centre-back Gary Pallister has downplayed the hype around Anthony Martial, after the French striker made an impressive start to life in the Premier League.

Martial was September's PFA Player of the Month after scoring five goals in nine appearances for the Red Devils, drawing comparisons to compatriot Thierry Henry.

However, Pallister has urged the French striker to not get ahead of himself, using Adnan Januzaj as an example for a youngster's career stalling.

"It's really exciting to see a young player come into the team and have an immediate impact," Pallister said, according to Goal.com.

"But we saw that a couple of seasons ago with Januzaj, where we all went on about him being the new Ryan Giggs or the next Georgie Best.

"In the early part of his career he took Manchester United by storm, but he's flat-lined since then. So you've got to be really careful when you throw all these accolades at young players."

Martial completed his move to Old Trafford from Monaco earlier this summer.
