Darren Fletcher: "We have to bounce back"

Darren Fletcher says that Manchester United must bounce back from their 6-1 defeat to Manchester City.

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has said that the team is hurting after their 6-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, but must bounce back from the shock.

Goals from Mario Balotelli, David Silva, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero stunned a ten-man United in what some commentators a calling a 'new era' of English football.

Fletcher admitted that United's players would find it hard to face banter around Manchester.

"We realise how much stick and banter there will be for our fans," said Fletcher.

"We know how much it's hurting them, but the players are hurting just as much. We have to live in the city as well, so we're going to have to deal with it too."

Fletcher scored United's only goal in what Alex Ferguson described as his "worst-ever result".

"It's a bad result losing to Manchester City, but this doesn't mean the league is over. We have to respond and win our next game," said the 27-year-old.

"We're disappointed - really disappointed - but we have to bounce back. Nobody wants to lose by the margin we did."

Manchester United now trail City by five points in the Premier League table.
