Sir Alex Ferguson hopeful over Robin van Persie's fitness

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful that Robin van Persie will be fit to face Real Madrid next month.

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that Robin van Persie will "hopefully" be fit for Manchester United's Champions League clash against Real Madrid.

The Dutch striker suffered a hip injury when he collided into a television camera during United's 2-0 victory away at Queens Park Rangers this afternoon.

Despite the fact that he was substituted before the break because of the complaint, Ferguson has hinted that his leading goalscorer will be available for the visit of Madrid a week on Tuesday.

"Van Persie seems to have collided with the camera dugout. We will assess him tomorrow. It was his hip," he told BBC Sport.

"It will be tender but hopefully he will be alright in time for the Real Madrid game."

The victory over QPR has moved United 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
