Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw will not return until next season

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw will reportedly not return to action until next season, despite targeting an early comeback.

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw will reportedly not return to first-team action until next season, despite initially targeting a comeback before the end of the current campaign.

The England international has been on the sidelines since September after he suffered a double leg break during a Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven in Holland.

Shaw has been in rehabilitation ever since, and stepped up his comeback by returning to training at United's complex in Carrington last month.

Eleven days ago, the 20-year-old admitted that he was aiming to play again before the season came to an end, but United do not intend to rush him back.

According to the Daily Mail, Shaw has now switched his focus to the 2016-17 campaign, with the aim of taking part in a full pre-season with the Red Devils.

Shaw will miss United's final Premier League game of the season on Sunday against Bournemouth, as well as the FA Cup final and England's Euro 2016 campaign.
