Roberto Martinez: 'Marouane Fellaini suffered knee ligament damage'

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini suffered ligament damage to his knee on Saturday night, according to Belgium boss Roberto Martinez.

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has said that Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has suffered ligament damage to his knee.

On Saturday night, Fellaini sustained an injury during Belgium's 4-3 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, but it was claimed that the player had only sprained his knee.

However, ahead of Belgium's final World Cup qualifier with Cyprus, Martinez has claimed that Fellaini could be set for an extended spell on the sidelines after the issue was revealed to be worse than first thought.

United are yet to make an official announcement and Fellaini is scheduled to undergo further tests to determine the extent of the injury, but it appears that the 29-year-old will be missing for longer than the two weeks which had previously been suggested.

The news comes as a blow to United boss Jose Mourinho, who has recently heaped praise on Fellaini, with the player scoring four times in seven appearances this season.
