Christian Eriksen leaves Old Trafford on crutches after picking up an ankle injury in Manchester United's 3-1 win over Reading.

Christian Eriksen left Old Trafford on crutches on Saturday evening following the ankle injury that he picked up in Manchester United's 3-1 win over Reading in the FA Cup.

The 30-year-old was withdrawn in the 57th minute of the clash with the Championship outfit, having been on the end of a heavy challenge from Andy Carroll.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag confirmed that the Denmark international had picked up an ankle problem, and the midfielder was seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches following the FA Cup contest.

"It's always difficult to say in this moment so short after the game has finished," Ten Hag told reporters during his post-match press conference on Saturday night.

"But it's an ankle [problem]. We have to see what is the diagnosis, so it costs us a minimum of 24 hours before we know that and then I can say more."

Eriksen arrived at Man United on a free transfer last summer following his departure from Brentford, and he has been a key player for the club this season, scoring two goals and registering nine assists in 30 appearances.

The midfielder could now be facing a spell on the sidelines at a key stage of the campaign, though, which might force Man United into the transfer market before Tuesday's deadline.

The Red Devils are next in action against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, preparing to host Steve Cooper's side in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final, holding a 3-0 advantage from the first leg.

The 20-time English champions will then face Crystal Palace and Leeds United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on February 4 and February 8 respectively.

Casemiro scored twice while Fred was also on the scoresheet, as Man United progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 success over Reading.

"The first 60 minutes was a really good performance. I think we totally dominated the game, we were composed in possession, with good moments where we accelerated," Ten Hag told ITV Sport after the match.

"In the first half we had some good opportunities, some chances and also a goal that is a goal - I don't know why it was disallowed.

"Good runs behind them created a lot of opportunities, but also our transition from defence was really good. And there was only one moment before half-time where there was a lack of concentration.

"But before that, I think we created four, five, six really good chances where the only thing we missed was the finish. Then after half-time, very quickly it was 2-0."

Donny van de Beek, Luke Shaw, Jadon Sancho, Diogo Dalot, Scott McTominay, Axel Tuanzebe and Anthony Martial are all currently on the sidelines for Man United.
