Jose Mourinho refuses to rule Romelu Lukaku out of next weekend's FA Cup final against Chelsea, even if it means naming the striker on the bench.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Romelu Lukaku is in Belgium undergoing further treatment on his ankle injury and is still in contention to be fit for next weekend's FA Cup final.

The 24-year-old has missed the Red Devils' last two matches - neither of which United managed to net in - since hobbling off early in the second half of the 2-1 win over Arsenal on April 29.

Mourinho said on Wednesday that he is 'hopeful' of having the former Everton striker, the scorer of 27 goals in 50 appearances since joining last summer, back in some capacity for the clash against former side Chelsea eight days from now.

Providing a further update on Lukaku's fitness battle, Mourinho told the club's official website: "We hope he can play the final.

"He is in Belgium having treatment with communications between doctors and our medical department at the moment. We are waiting to see if he can play in the final - if not starting at least to be on the bench."

Lukaku's last piece of silverware came during his time at Belgian club Anderlecht in 2010.
