UEFA have told the FA that they will not give a written explanation as to why Wayne Rooney was hit with a three-match ban until a later date.

UEFA have informed the Football Association that they will delay handing over the written reasons as to why Wayne Rooney was handed a three-match ban.

The FA were awaiting an explanation from UEFA before deciding on whether to appeal the ruling against the Manchester United striker.

The England international was hit with the lengthy ban after being shown red in the side's 2-2 draw with Montenegro earlier this month.

If the ban were to stand, then the former Everton forward would miss the entire group stage of the European Championships next year.
