Wayne Rooney 'on course to be fit for crucial Bayern Munich clash'

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is reportedly on course to recovering from a toe injury in time to play against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is reportedly close to returning to fitness in time for Wednesday's Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

The England international missed the Red Devils' 4-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday with a bruised toe.

Despite fears that the 28-year-old would be absent for the crucial encounter, manager David Moyes revealed over the weekend that the striker has stepped up his bid to recover by 'working hard' in a swimming pool in Manchester.

Following his fitness work, Rooney is on track to recover from his injury in order to play in the quarter-final second leg at the Allianz Arena in Munich, according to the Daily Mail.

The tie currently stands at 1-1 after the Bundesliga champions clinched a vital away goal at Old Trafford last week.
