Wayne Rooney becomes the leading English goalscorer in the Champions League after finding the net twice last night.

The two penalties that Wayne Rooney converted during Manchester United's 2-0 victory over Otelul Galati yesterday evening saw him become the leading English goalscorer in the history of Champions League.

The striker took his tally to 26, moving him two ahead of former United teammate Paul Scholes.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has found the net on 20 occasions in the competition, while Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is one goal further back with 19.

Former Red Devil Andy Cole rounds off the top five with 18 goals.
