France coach Didier Deschamps stands by Samir Nasri decision

France coach Didier Deschamps insists that he does not regret leaving Samir Nasri out of his World Cup squad.

France coach Didier Deschamps has insisted that he does not regret leaving Samir Nasri out of his squad for the World Cup.

The Manchester City midfielder was controversially omitted by Deschamps when he announced his final 23-man party last week.

Despite some bewilderment over the snub, Deschamps says that Nasri's lack of form at international level was the key reason for not being included.

"I watched his matches. He has a level of performance for his club and another in the French team," he told L'Equipe.

"Like any national team coach, I have important choices to make. Sporting criteria are important, but they are not everything. I must not have any regrets. I have made my decision and we move on."

France begin their World Cup campaign on Sunday when they face Honduras.
