Manchester City pulled out of deal for Ross Barkley after being quoted £50m

Manchester City pull the plug on a deal to bring Everton midfielder Ross Barkley to the club after being quoted £50m, according to reports.

Ross Barkley will remain at Everton after Premier League champions Manchester City were put off by the youngster's £50m asking price, according to reports.

Barkely enjoyed a breakthrough season for the Toffees last season, playing 34 times and scoring six goals in the league under the stewardship of Roberto Martinez.

The 20-year-old was then included in England's 23-man squad which travelled to Brazil for the World Cup and he featured from the start in his country's 0-0 draw with Costa Rica.

Manuel Pellegrini is thought to be an admirer of the attacking midfielder and was prepared to pay up to £30m to bring him to the Etihad Stadium, but the Mirror has reported that Bill Kenwright quoted the Citizens £50m at the beginning of the summer.

With Financial Fair Play rulings dictating what Man City can pay, Pellegrini was quick to back out of a deal which would have seen the majority of his summer transfer budget blown on just one player.

Barkley has recently penned a new four-year deal at Everton, but will miss the start of the season after picking up a leg injury on the eve of the new campaign.
