Top clubs 'want Premier League to punish Manchester City'

A number of top English clubs reportedly want the Premier League to punish Manchester City for alleged financial breaches in recent years.

A number of top English clubs have reportedly called on the Premier League to punish Manchester City for their alleged financial breaches.

Earlier this month, UEFA announced that City had been banned from European competitions for two years after being found guilty of overstating sponsorship revenue.

While City intend to appeal the decision, it appears that many of their domestic rivals want further sanctions handed down to the reigning top-flight champions.

According to The Athletic, it has been suggested to the Premier League that City's spending has led to an inflated market.

The report indicates that the clubs in question do not want to see City relegated from the division, with a points deduction or financial penalty a more desirable punishment.

The Premier League are unlikely to act until the case is heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
