Report: Manchester City to step up Diego Simeone interest

A report claims that Manchester City want to replace Manuel Pellegrini with current Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone.

Manchester City reportedly want Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone to become their new long-term manager.

City are currently eight points off leaders Chelsea in the Premier League table, while they are on the cusp of Champions League elimination.

Manuel Pellegrini's side have also been eliminated from the League Cup, leaving the FA Cup as their only realistic chance of a trophy.

According to the Daily Star, Pellegrini is under severe pressure, with the club's hierarchy already picking out Simeone as the Chilean's replacement.

Simeone led Atletico to their first La Liga title since 1996 last term, but was forced to sell a number of key players in the summer.
