Manuel Pellegrini: 'We should have had a penalty'

Manuel Pellegrini bemoans the fact that Manchester City were not awarded a late penalty during their 0-0 home draw with Everton.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that his side should have been given a penalty in the closing stages of their 0-0 draw with Everton tonight.

There were big appeals when City winger Raheem Sterling went down inside the area under a challenge from Everton centre-back John Stones, but referee Roger East only awarded a goal kick to the visitors.

Speaking about that incident after the final whistle, Pellegrini told BBC Sport: "Everyone in the stadium could see it was a penalty, it was so near to the referee and so clear.

"Both Raheem's legs were taken by Stones but if he doesn't whistle we can't say anything."

The goalless draw was City's first at home in the Premier League since November 2010.
