Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola: 'I'll quit my job before I change my style'

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says that he would sooner quit his job than alter his style of play.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has defended his tactics by claiming that he would sooner quit his job than change his style of play.

The Spaniard's philosophy has been questioned following Wednesday's 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League group stage.

In an attempt to play out of the back, goalkeeper Claudio Bravo paid the price for an error as he was sent off in the second half against Barca, while Sergio Aguero started on the bench for tactical reasons.

When asked in Friday's press conference whether he had considered changing his approach, Guardiola said: "I think about that, yes, but after that the solution is not better than what I believe. So I cannot. Do you know why? Because in seven years I won 21 titles. So it's three titles per year playing in that way.

"But if you believe I arrive here and in three months everything is going well and I'm going to win in the Camp Nou 0-4, I'm going to dominate against Messi and Luis Suarez, and Neymar is going to create nothing, and Iniesta isn't going to play good, no.

"I'm good, but it's not enough! No, I'm not going to change. If it's not going well in the future, if next season isn't going well in that way, I will go home. So, it doesn't change."

Guardiola spent three years in charge of Barcelona before spending the same amount of time at Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

The Spaniard took over at City in the summer following Manuel Pellegrini's departure.
