Half-Time Report: Manchester City ahead against Wigan Athletic

Edin Dzeko gives Manchester City a 1-0 half-time lead against Wigan Athletic in the League Cup.

Manchester City are 1-0 up against Wigan Athletic at half time in tonight's League Cup game.

Edin Dzeko fired City into the lead around the half-hour mark after chances at both ends.

Wigan started the game well with Jordi Gomez finding space and causing the home side problems, but it was City who created the first real chance.

Unfortunately for them it fell to Dedryck Boyata who, after seeing his header well saved, was unable to convert the rebound after seven minutes.

New signing Stevan Jovetic then put a rasping effort just wide before Dzeko headed wide after connecting with James Milner's cross.

Youngster Marcos Lopes came close to giving City the lead, smashing the ball against the bar after finding space.

The hosts did finally take the lead 15 minutes from the end of the half. Dzeko collected Fernandinho's through-ball and smashed past the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.

Milner and Lopes had chances to double the lead but neither could work the goalkeeper as City went in ahead.
