Manchester City winger Leroy Sane will miss the EFL Cup final meeting with Arsenal after being ruled out of action for six weeks with ankle ligament damage.

Pep Guardiola has revealed that Manchester City winger Leroy Sane will miss around six weeks of action after suffering ankle ligament damage in the win over Cardiff City.

The Germany international, who has seven goals and 12 assists in the Premier League and Champions League this term, will therefore sit out the Citizens' EFL Cup final meeting with Arsenal on February 25.

City confirmed on Monday night that Sane was facing a spell on the sidelines as a result of the horror challenge from Joe Bennett, which forced the 22-year-old off the pitch midway through the 2-0 FA Cup win.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Wednesday's home match against West Bromwich Albion, Guardiola predicted a six-week layoff for the former Schalke 04 wideman, also ruling him out of the Champions League last-16 tie against Basel.

Bennett, sent off later in the match for a separate incident, has since apologised to Sane for the challenge.
