Phil Foden is named on Manchester City's bench for this evening's Champions League quarter-final second-leg clash against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Phil Foden has been named on Manchester City's bench for this evening's Champions League quarter-final second-leg clash against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

The 22-year-old has missed the last five games across all competitions for the Citizens after undergoing appendix surgery at the end of last month.

However, Foden returned to training yesterday and has been deemed fit to return to the matchday squad this evening, with the England international beginning the second leg as a substitute.

Pep Guardiola has selected an unchanged starting lineup from last week's 3-0 first-leg triumph at the Etihad Stadium, with goalkeeper Ederson to be protected by defensive quartet John Stones, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake.

Stones will likely roam into centre-midfield to partner lynchpin Rodri, while Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan will operate in more advanced midfield roles either side of wingers Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish.

Goal machine Erling Braut Haaland, who has scored six goals in his last eight competitive meetings against Bayern, will continue to lead the line in attack.

As for Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel has made two changes to his starting lineup from the first leg, with Man City loanee Joao Cancelo starting against his parent club at left-back at the expense of Alphonso Davies.

The other change sees Serge Gnabry drop down to the substitutes' bench to allow Eric Maxim Choupo-Montig to return to the first XI after recovering from injury.

Meanwhile, Sadio Mane has returned to the matchday squad and is named on the bench after serving a club suspension for punching teammate Leroy Sane – who starts this evening – in the face after last week's first-leg defeat.

Bayern Munich: Sommer; Pavard, Upamecano, De Ligt, Cancelo; Kimmich, Goretzka; Sane, Musiala, Coman; Choupo-Moting

Subs: Ulriech, Gnabry, Davies, Mane, Sarr, Blind, Muller, Gravenberch, Tel, Mazraoui, Stanisic, Ibrahimovic

Manchester City: Ederson; Stones, Akanji, Dias, Ake; De Bruyne, Rodri, Gundogan; Bernardo, Haaland, Grealish

Subs: Ortega, Carson, Walker, Phillips, Laporte, Alvarez, Gomez, Mahrez, Perrone, Foden, Palmer, Lewis
