Roberto Mancini: "We didn't lose it tonight"

Roberto Mancini believes that his side will learn from the mistakes they have made in this season's Champions League.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has insisted that his side's mistakes earlier in the Champions League have cost them a place in the last 16.

A draw with Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium ended City's slim hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages and Mancini admits that his side have not been good enough in Group D.

"We played so so in the first half. We had chances to score - we missed one or two chances," the Italian said. "They scored with their first chance. We made a mistake - it was five versus two in the box. We pushed up after the break.

"We didn't lose it tonight, but in the first few games - against Dortmund and Ajax. I hope we will be more experienced next year. When we started we knew the group was going to be difficult. We're a good team, but we went out and made mistakes."

Man City can still make it into the Europa League if they finish third in the group.
