Roberto Mancini jokes that Manchester City need the police to stop Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday and backs the Real Madrid forward to win the Ballon d'Or.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini believes that Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo deserves to win the 2012 FIFA Ballon d'Or.

The Italian also joked that he will need to call the police to stop the 27-year-old from playing his best football against them in the Champions League on Wednesday.

"We'll call the police!" he said when asked how City will stop Ronaldo.

"He's a top player and he deserves to win the Ballon d'Or. He scored so many goals last year and that helped them to finish above Barcelona.

"I hope he can have a bad night on Wednesday. When you come up against a player who can score one or two goals every game it is difficult. If they leave Cristiano at home, it's better."

City are currently at the foot of Group D with just two points from four matches, while their visitors Madrid are second with seven points.
