Mainz 2-0 Augsburg

Mainz beat Augsburg 2-0 at home in the Bundesliga, thanks to goals from Andreas Ivanschitz and Adam Szalai in the first half.

Mainz have defeated Augsburg 2-0 at home in the Bundesliga, thanks to two goals in the first half.

The first chance of the game fell to the visitors after just five minutes, when Milan Petrzela tried to head home Kevin Vogt's cross from a difficult angle and failed.

Mainz went ahead in the 10th minute as Andreas Ivanschitz slotted home from close range.

The home side could have doubled their lead six minutes later when Adam Szalai forced Mohamed Amsif into making a good save.

Petrzela came close again for Augsburg in the 24th minute when he tried to find the target from outside the box.

Then moments later Mainz doubled their advantage as Szalai turned in Nicolai Muller's pass.

The second half saw both sides come close to adding to their respective tallies, but their failure to do so saw Mainz pick up maximum points at home.
