Manchester City's Gareth Barry or Liverpool's Stewart Downing will not be returning to Aston Villa during the summer, according to reports.

Aston Villa are not interested in re-signing either Gareth Barry or Stewart Downing, according to reports.

Both players had been linked with a return to Villa Park after their respective clubs pressed on with their summer signings.

However, according to the Birmingham Mail, neither Manchester City midfielder Barry or Liverpool winger Downing will be moving to Paul Lambert's side.

Barry made 441 appearances for Villa before he left the club in 2009, while Downing scored 11 goals in 79 games during a two-year spell between 2009 and 2011.
