Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has emerged as a January transfer target for Southampton.
Sturridge has found himself out of favour at Anfield this season, with the majority of his appearances in the Premier League coming off the substitutes' bench.
He has contributed goals in the EFL Cup and has found the back of the net on England duty but he is still without a goal in England's top flight this season.
According to The Express, that has led to Southampton contemplating a loan bid for the 27-year-old with a view to a £25m move in the summer.
Despite the goalscoring exploits of Charlie Austin, Southampton have netted just 12 times in the Premier League this season and are still looking for a long-term replacement for Graziano Pelle, who left in the summer.
West Ham United and AC Milan have previously been linked with an approach for the attacker.
