Rodgers: 'No assurances for Sturridge'

Brendan Rodgers insists that Daniel Sturridge, nor any other potential recruit, will tell him where they will play for Liverpool.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Daniel Sturridge has been given no assurances over what position he will play in should he join the club from Chelsea next month.

Reports have claimed that Sturridge has told Liverpool that he would only consider a switch if he will be used as a central striker, rather than a wide player.

However, while insisting that no deal for the England international is done, Rodgers was adamant that no player will tell him where they will play.

"There is nothing at all. There will be nothing complete until we have signed a player," he told reporters. "Once we do I will have no problem speaking about who we sign. But until that points there is nothing to say.

"You guys keep writing and saying things. Certainly no-one will come into this club and demand where they play, that's for sure.

"As with any negotiations, it is not straightforward but we will do the business privately. For us we are confident we will get some business done early in January which will really help the squad."

Speculation over the weekend suggested that Sturridge had a medical on Merseyside yesterday afternoon.
