Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber has ruled out the possibility of Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard returning to Liverpool on loan.
Gerrard, 35, left his boyhood club to join Galaxy at the end of the 2014-15 season, but a loan move back to Anfield has been mooted.
The Reds' chief executive Ian Ayre previously admitted that a temporary return was "conceivable" but Garber does not believe that it will materialise.
Asked if it could happen, he told The Telegraph: "I don't think so. And I had not heard that was something that was being contemplated."
Galaxy's regular season finishes on October 25, but an MLS Cup berth could follow. Their 2016 campaign does not then return until March of next year.
