Liverpool transfer news: Sarr hints at switch, competition for Thiago, Wijnaldum's future in doubt

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Liverpool on Thursday, August 13.

The summer transfer window is now open and will run until the start of October, giving clubs plenty of time to complete business as they prepare for the new season.

Liverpool are not expected to be overly busy in the current market, but it would not be a surprise to see a couple more additions before the window slams shut.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Anfield.

Thursday morning's Liverpool transfer talk news roundup:

Ismaila Sarr opens door to Liverpool move

Watford attacker Ismaila Sarr has said that any player "would love" to play for Liverpool amid suggestions that Jurgen Klopp's side want to sign him.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2019-20 campaign at club level, scoring six times and providing six assists in 30 appearances in all competitions.

Watford's drop into the Championship could see the Senegal international move on this summer, though, and the attacker has seemingly opened the door on a move to Anfield.

"Liverpool are a really great team, everyone would love to play there," Sarr told Sans Limites when questioned on the transfer speculation. "They won the Premier League this year and the Champions League last year. But there are other great teams in the English league.

"Frankly, I have yet to make a choice. If I am to leave, I just hope it is for a good team. At the moment, it is just guesswork."

Manchester City to rival Liverpool for Thiago Alcantara?

Manchester City have reportedly outbid Liverpool for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

The Spain international's contract at the Allianz Arena is due to expire next June, and he is widely expected to seek pastures new during this summer's transfer window.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with the former Barcelona midfielder over the last few weeks, but according to Bild, City have now entered the race, outbidding their Premier League rivals in the process.

The 29-year-old has again been a key player for the German champions this term, scoring three times and contributing two assists in 37 appearances in all competitions.

Georginio Wijnaldum 'still waiting for Liverpool talks'

Liverpool are reportedly yet to begin discussions with Georginio Wijnaldum over a new contract.

The 29-year-old was again a key player for the Reds during the 2019-20 campaign, making 47 appearances in all competitions, scoring six times in the process.

The Netherlands international will see his current deal at Anfield expire next summer, though, and according to Sky Sports News, talks over an extension have not been held.

The report claims that the midfielder's representatives are still waiting to hear from club officials, suggesting that the Dutchman could be on the move.
