Liverpool have identified Victor Valdes as a possible transfer target ahead of the summer, according to reports.
Valdes will become a free agent when he leaves Barcelona at the end of the season and interest in the Spanish goalkeeper is believed to be high, with both Monaco and Manchester City rumoured to be keen on agreeing a deal.
However, Spanish newspaper Sport reports that Liverpool now lead the race to secure his services after offering a contract to the 32-year-old.
Simon Mignolet is currently the first-choice goalkeeper at Anfield but his place would be under threat if Valdes decides to make the switch to the Premier League.
Pepe Reina will return to Liverpool in the summer when his loan at Napoli finishes, but he is expected to depart in a permanent deal rather than re-join the first-team squad.
