Liverpool want to sign Leicester City attacker James Maddison during this summer's transfer window, according to a report.

Liverpool are reportedly keen to secure the signature of Leicester City attacker James Maddison during this summer's transfer window.

The 26-year-old has again been a key player for the Foxes during the 2022-23 campaign, featuring on 24 occasions in all competitions, contributing nine goals and six assists in the process.

Maddison only has a deal at the King Power Stadium until next June, though, and there is currently widespread speculation surrounding his future.

Tottenham Hotspur have recently been linked with the England international, who will reportedly be available for a fee in the region of £50m this summer.

According to 90min, Maddison's representatives have been contacted by Liverpool, with the Reds expressing an interest in signing the playmaker ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

The report claims that Maddison will leave Leicester this summer even if the Foxes are able to survive relegation from the Premier League.

A disappointing campaign has seen the 2015-16 English champions pick up just 25 points from 29 matches, which has left them in 19th position in the Premier League table.

Leicester are next in action on Saturday afternoon against fellow relegation candidates Bournemouth, with first-team coaches Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler set to lead the team following Brendan Rodgers's departure.

A lack of Champions League football for the 2023-24 campaign could cost Liverpool in their pursuit of Maddison, though, which could potentially put Newcastle United in the driving seat, should the Magpies manage to claim a top-four position.

Liverpool are currently eighth in the table, 10 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United on the same number of matches (28).

Maddison made the move to Leicester from Norwich City in July 2018, and he has represented the Foxes on 195 occasions, scoring 54 goals and registering 38 assists in the process.

The Englishman has nine goals and six assists in 22 Premier League appearances this term, while he has worn the captain's armband on a number of occasions in 2022-23.

Man United, Manchester City and Chelsea have also previously been linked with Maddison, but it appears that the trio have more pressing issues in the upcoming market.

Maddison played 85 minutes of Leicester's 2-1 home loss to Aston Villa in the league on Tuesday.
