Liverpool reportedly have no intention of signing Domagoj Vida or any other central defender this summer, despite widespread speculation to the contrary.
The Reds were understood to have made a string of bids for Besiktas defender Vida following his performances alongside Dejan Lovren for Croatia at this summer's World Cup, the latest of which was thought to be worth £19.5m.
However, the Liverpool Echo reports that the club are "baffled" by the speculation linking them with the 29-year-old as they have no interest in signing him.
An injury setback for Joel Matip has forced him to fly home early from their pre-season tour of the United States, leading to further reports that manager Jurgen Klopp could look to bring in defensive reinforcements before the August 9 transfer deadline.
However, Klopp is not concerned by a lack of options despite Lovren only due to report back to Melwood six days before their Premier League opener against West Ham United on August 12.
Virgil van Dijk is available for the Reds, though, while Joe Gomez and Ragnar Klavan provide further options at the heart of the defence.
