Juventus chief: 'Liverpool will not sell Emre Can in January'

Juventus are not confident of signing Emre Can from Liverpool in January after having a previous bid knocked back in the summer, reveals general director Beppe Marotta.

Juventus general director Beppe Marotta has confirmed that the Italian club failed with a summer bid for Emre Can and do not intend to make another offer for the Liverpool midfielder.

The Serie A champions were unable to reach an agreement for Can, who is now into the final eight months of his existing Anfield deal after turning down fresh terms.

Marotta recently revealed that Juve will remain patient in their pursuit of the Germany international, with the January transfer window providing another chance to test the Reds' resolve.

However, the Bianconeri chief is no longer confident of landing Can this season as Liverpool are seemingly happy to let him leave on a free contract next summer.

"We don't think we are going to make an big signing in January," he told Premium Sport. "Our team is absolutely competitive and we have some very interesting midfielders like [Rodrigo] Bentancur who has already showed his qualities. We have faith in this team and in these lads.

"As for Emre Can I don't think Liverpool will sell him in January. We made an offer for him in the summer but the Reds didn't sell him so I don't think they'll change their mind in the middle of the season."

Juventus dropped points for the first time this season on Sunday evening as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Atalanta BC.
