Versatile defender Joe Gomez is close to signing a new long-term deal with Liverpool, according to a report.

Liverpool are confident that versatile defender Joe Gomez will sign a new contract at Anfield in the coming weeks, according to a report.

The England international is reportedly being rewarded by the Reds for an impressive start to 2018-19 that has seen him emerge as an elite Premier League player.

Gomez still has three-and-a-half years to run on his existing terms, but The Mirror claims that talks are proceeding well between the 21-year-old and the Merseyside outfit over extending the length of that deal further.

The report indicates that the former Charlton Athletic youngster, described by Jurgen Klopp as a future star for Liverpool, will be given improved terms to persuade him to put pen to paper.

Klopp has started Gomez in eight Premier League matches this season and brought him off the bench in one other game.
