Nathaniel Clyne has also moved to the Vitality Stadium on loan.

Bournemouth have signed Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke in a Β£19million deal and also completed a loan move for defender Nathaniel Clyne.

Solanke had attracted interest from Crystal Palace in recent weeks, but the Cherries moved swiftly and Press Association Sport understands extra payments have been factored into the transfer on top of an initial fee.

Solanke's arrival, the first of two moves from Anfield to the Vitality Stadium with right-back Clyne joining until the end of the season, will pave the way for Jermain Defoe to join Rangers on an 18-month loan.

The 36-year-old former England striker has found his first-team chances limited this season.

Solanke, who moved to Anfield in the summer of May 2017 for an undisclosed compensation fee as a former academy player, made 27 appearances in his first season but has yet to feature in the current campaign.

The 21-year-old is keen to play first-team football, having left Chelsea for exactly that same reason and with little chance of displacing the trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah in the near future has decided to look elsewhere.

Speaking to afcbTV, Solanke said: "I think the club is going somewhere. Over the past few years, they have been really good in the Premier League and had some good positional finishes as well. I think it's a good club to be at, especially for someone of my age.

"I spoke with the manager this morning (Friday). He is a really nice guy. From playing and watching the Premier League, I know the sort of manager he is. I was excited to meet him and am really looking forward to working with him and seeing what he's about.

"My main target is to score goals and, being a striker, hopefully I can get a few for the team and help the team get wins. Playing in the Premier League, every game is tough and together we can try to do as well as we can."

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe believes Solanke can make a major impact on his squad.

"Dominic is technically gifted, very athletic and has the physical profile that will give us something different in our front line," the Cherries boss added.

"He has done very well for England at various age groups, has a huge amount of potential and I'm really excited about working with him."

Clyne, 27, is in a similar position having seen his first-team chances drastically reduced due to the form of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez.

The defender has played just five times this season and managed only a similar number in the previous campaign because of a back problem, and could feature in Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie against Brighton to help bolster a depleted squad.

Clyne told afcbTV: "I'm really excited by this opportunity. It's a great chance for me to come and play football.

"I've spoken to the manager and we've talked about what we can achieve for the remainder of the season. It's a great club with a great story. I can't wait to get going."

Defoe, meanwhile, appears set to join up with Steven Gerrard's squad at a warm-weather training camp in Tenerife before the domestic Scottish programme resumes later in January.

Howe, though, maintains that nothing has yet been confirmed, with any potential transfer progressing only if it is "in the player's best interest".

Despite not featuring much in the Premier League this season, Howe maintains it was worthwhile bringing him to the south coast from Sunderland in the summer of 2017.

"The deal has been a good one from our perspective. I would do it again in a heartbeat," the Bournemouth manager said.
