Liverpool appear to have moved closer to securing the signing of Adrien Rabiot, with Paris Saint-Germain ready to bench the midfielder for the rest of the season.

Adrien Rabiot has reportedly moved a step closer to leaving Liverpool after it was revealed that he will spend the rest of the campaign on the Paris Saint-Germain bench.

Rabiot has less than six months remaining on his contract at the Parc des Princes, and it has resulted in frequent speculation regarding the midfielder's future.

The 23-year-old has remained a regular in the starting lineup at the Ligue 1 giants, but sporting director Antero Henrique has revealed that will change over the coming months with the Frenchman having indicated that he will not be remaining at the club.

Henrique told Yahoo Sport: "The player informed me that he would not sign a contract and that he wanted to leave the club [as a free agent] at the end of the season, ie. at the end of his contract.

"For the player, this will have a very clear consequence: he will remain on the bench for an indefinite period."

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Rabiot, and it was suggested earlier this week that the player had ruled out a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
