Liverpool hit Swansea City for five

Brendan Rodgers sees his Liverpool side score five times without reply against his former club Swansea City.

Liverpool have moved up to seventh in the Premier League table thanks to a 5-0 victory over Swansea City at Anfield this afternoon.

The Reds dominated large parts of the first half but their efforts were only rewarded with one goal before the break. It was captain Steven Gerrard who found the net from the penalty spot after 33 minutes following Kemy Agustien's trip on Luis Suarez inside the Swansea area.

However, Brendan Rodgers's team were much more clinical after the restart and managed to add four more goals to their tally.

Philippe Coutinho, who was making his first start for the club since his switch from Inter Milan last month, doubled his side's advantage just one minute into the second half when he drilled the ball beyond Michel Vorm from 20 yards out.

The match was then put beyond the reach of the visiting Welsh side three minutes later when full-back Jose Enrique linked with Daniel Sturridge to poke the ball into the net from close range.

Liverpool continued to go in search of further goals and with 56 minutes played their leading goalscorer Suarez found the net as he skipped away from two Swansea defenders before beating Vorm.

The scoring was completed 19 minutes before time courtesy of Sturridge, who took over the penalty kick duties from Gerrard after Wayne Routledge was adjudged to have handled the ball by referee Howard Webb.
