Hull City overcome Liverpool

Hull City claim their first ever win against Liverpool with a 3-1 win against the Reds at the KC Stadium.

Hull City have beaten Liverpool 3-1 at the KC Stadium in the Premier League this afternoon.

The Tigers secured their first ever triumph against the Merseyside outfit with goals from Jake Livermore, David Meyler and Tom Huddlestone, despite Steven Gerrard's strike.

Livermore opened the scoring for the home side after 20 minutes when his well-struck effort deflected off Martin Skrtel to loop over Simon Mignolet in the Liverpool goal.

The Reds had their response seven minutes later when Gerrard drilled a free kick low beyond Allan McGregor after Jordan Henderson had been hacked down by Curtis Davies.

Luis Suarez was unusually out of sort throughout and the Uruguayan striker missed a good chance towards the end of the half when he rolled a tame effort at McGregor.

Reds boss sent on Philippe Coutinho in an attempt to turn the game in their favour, but it was the Tigers who went ahead.

With Hull shouting for a handball in the area, Meyler reacted quickest to fire beyond Mignolet with his left foot after 72 minutes.

Suarez flashed a free kick wide late on, but the Tigers extended their lead to record their first ever win against the Reds.

Yannick Sagbo had a chance to further the lead with four minutes remaining, but the striker's effort was weak after he raced clear.

The Reds' misery was compounded when Skrtel headed in Huddlestone's effort when trying to block it on 88 minutes.
