Virgil van Dijk believes that Liverpool "must try to win everything" this season but admits that the road ahead is "very long" despite their positive start.

Virgil van Dijk has claimed that Liverpool "must try to win everything" this season but admits that the road ahead is "very long".

Fresh from heavy investment this summer, the Reds have won both of their Premier League games so far, scoring six goals and conceding none.

West Ham United were on the receiving end of a 4-0 thrashing on August 12, while Monday night saw Liverpool run out 2-0 winners over Crystal Palace.

At Selhurst Park, James Milner gave Jurgen Klopp's side the lead with a penalty on the stroke of half time while Sadio Mane wrapped up the points in injury time.

"It's a very tough game," the Dutchman told Sky Sports News. "We knew before the game it would be. I don't think the big teams ever win here comfortably. I'm happy with a clean sheet. I think a well-deserved three points.

"We know how direct Crystal Palace are looking for [Christian] Benteke and then the other striker. It's always going to be tough but we were ready for the fight.

"We have an amazing team and manager. We practice every day on how to get better. We showed a lot of good things today – we need to be proud of ourselves today.

"We've got to try to win everything. It's been a while but we don't need to think too much ahead. We've only played two games, it'll be a very long road and a tough year."

Liverpool have joined five other teams, including champions Manchester City, on six points in the table after their opening two league fixtures.
