UEFA charges Liverpool after disturbances ahead of their Champions League clash with Manchester City, whose bus was attacked on its way to Anfield.

Liverpool have been charged by UEFA after disturbances ahead of the club's Champions League quarter-final clash with Manchester City.

Ahead of the game on Wednesday night, thousands of Reds fans took to the streets at a time when City's team bus was due to make its way to Anfield.

Bottles, missiles and smoke bombs were thrown at the coach - which was damaged - and the incident was strongly condemned by both Liverpool and City boss Pep Guardiola.

UEFA has now decided to take action against the Merseyside giants, with charges in relation to the setting off of fireworks, the throwing of objects, acts of damage and crowd disturbances.

Liverpool went on to win the match by a 3-0 scoreline, with the second leg taking place at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.
