Jonjo Shelvey apologises for costly errors

Jonjo Shelvey says sorry to Swansea's fans after his errors lead to both of former club Liverpool's goals in the 2-2 draw between the two sides at the Liberty Stadium.

Jonjo Shelvey has apologised to Swansea City's fans after his mistakes played a role in both of Liverpool's goals in the 2-2 draw between the two sides on Monday night.

Playing against the club that sold him to the Swans for £5m this summer, Shelvey opened the scoring inside two minutes, but his pair of sloppy errors allowed Liverpool to turn the game around by half time.

However, the 21-year-old midfielder reemerged for the second half at the Liberty Stadium and provided Michu with Swansea's equaliser on 64 minutes.

Shelvey was pleased that he could make amends, but admitted that he is deeply disappointed by his first-half blunders that cost the hosts what he feels would have been a deserving victory.

He told Sky Sports News: "I just want to say sorry to the Swansea fans for the two bad mistakes that have gifted Liverpool a draw.

"I really thought we deserved more than that. It started tremendously, getting the goal, but then two poor mistakes. I showed a bit of character to keep getting on the ball, and I set the next goal up, but I'm still disappointed."

Shelvey scored seven goals in 59 appearances during his three-year-spell at Anfield.
