Brendan Rodgers: 'We can put the pressure on Manchester United'

Brendan Rodgers believes that Liverpool can put the pressure on Manchester United in the race for the final Champions League place by winning their final three games.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is optimistic that his side can still qualify for the Champions League by winning their three remaining matches this season.

The Reds trail fourth-placed Manchester United by four points in the battle to reach Europe's elite competition, but have been boosted by Louis van Gaal's men's recent struggles as they have lost their last three matches.

Rodgers believes that the Merseysiders can put the pressure on the Red Devils by beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

"If we can win our last three games, it would certainly make it interesting," Rodgers told reporters.

"It is out of our hands. That's the reality. But if we can finish that way it would certainly be close. They are three big games for us and you might find yourself not too far away.

"I just think for us to be challenging after the start we had, the players deserve incredible credit. To be so far behind at the beginning and midway through the season, with some difficult moments along the way, to at least be in the fight is important for us."

Rodgers also revealed that striker Daniel Sturridge will be out until September after undergoing hip surgery.
