Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers believes that Daniel Sturridge is ready to step up to the mark to become his side's leading striker.
The Reds sold Luis Suarez for £70m to Barcelona, leaving them without their main forward, who scored 31 goals in the Premier League last season.
However, Rodgers feels that Sturridge can take on the responsibility to replace the Uruguayan, having gained confidence in the past year following his 20-goal season in the top flight.
He told reporters: "I've seen a difference in Daniel since he came back. He has obviously got confidence from the World Cup and his season last year.
"I think he's ready to take on the mantle. He got 20-odd goals last season so he's a striker of great value."
Liverpool defeated Olympiacos in their latest pre-season friendly thanks to a strike from Raheem Sterling.
