Brendan Rodgers insists that Liverpool won't copy Barcelona's style

Brendan Rodgers says that he wants his Reds team to play the "Liverpool way" and not try to copy Barcelona.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that the Reds' style of play will not be taken from Barcelona's philosophy.

The Northern Irishman has become known for his possession football, which he implemented successfully at former club Swansea City, which has attracted comparisons with the Spanish giants.

"The way I want to play here is the Liverpool way," Rodgers told the club's official website. "The history and tradition of this club has been about offensive football, attacking football - but always with discipline.

"The game will be based around what Liverpool are about, which is control, dominating games with the ball, working very hard when you haven't got the ball, and keeping the game as simple as possible.

"Of course I'll bring in a certain philosophy which I'm attached to, but the principles of your game are based around the players."

The 39-year-old will have his first test as Liverpool manager when the Merseyside outfit take on West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on the opening day of the season.
